What Is a Florida Car Accident Report?

A Florida car accident report (also called a traffic crash report) is a written document completed by the responding law enforcement agency. It contains key details about the crash, including:

  • Time, date, and exact location of the accident

  • Names and contact info of the parties involved

  • Insurance and vehicle information

  • Description of injuries or property damage

  • Diagram of the crash scene

  • Statements and findings from the officer

This report serves as official documentation and may be required by your insurance provider, attorney, or the court system.

Who Can Access a Crash Report in Florida?

For the first 60 days after a crash, access to Florida accident reports is restricted. During this time, only authorized parties can request a copy, including:

  • Individuals directly involved in the crash

  • Their attorneys or insurance providers

  • Law enforcement agencies

  • Licensed media outlets (with valid credentials)

After 60 days, the report becomes public and can be accessed by anyone.

How to Report Accident in Florida

There are three official ways to request your Florida car accident report:

This is often the best option if your report isn’t yet uploaded to the state portal.
